BRIAN DRUM
NEW YORK'S SMALL BUSINESSPERSON OF THE YEAR - 2004
Drum has a reputation in
the business for rock-solid integrity – and
for results. For more than 35 years, the company spent
not a single advertising dollar … its business
came strictly from referrals. Its business model,
like all effective models, was fluid and responsive
to the post-9/11 economy. Drum’s innovations
have worked, to the benefit of its clients and the
candidates it placed. It continues to work extraordinarily
well. Drum is not only out of the red, but is doing
business better than ever before, rebuilding companies
person by person, even as a city is rebuilt block
by block.
Today, 3 years after the tragedy that devastated the
world, Drum Associates exemplifies the spirit of New
York, and shows how America fights back. Through its
people, through each individual, through the small
businesses that exemplify the resilience and tenacity
of the New York spirit and the American dream.
Brian considers this award as much
a tribute to that dream and that spirit, as a recognition
of his determination to not give in. He sees Drum’s
renaissance as a touchstone for efforts to focus greater
attention to Downtown New York, and to the revitalization
of the Financial District. In that sense, the greatest
reward will be the return to “business as usual”,
and the resurgence of all businesses in the financial
center of the world.
